Limus Zukunftsschmiede is going to be a local IDG-hub. But what is IDG?
The Inner Development Goals (IDG) framework is a science-based system of 25 skills across five dimensions designed to foster inner growth as a foundation for sustainable outer change.
The IDG framework was created to complement the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on the inner capacities individuals and organizations need to address complex global challenges effectively. It emphasizes that personal transformation is a prerequisite for systemic transformation, linking self-awareness, relational skills, and action-oriented competencies to societal and environmental wellbeing. The framework is co-created bottom-up and continuously refined through global research and surveys.
The IDG framework organizes inner development into five dimensions, each containing 5 specific skills that collectively support sustainable change:
1. Being – Cultivating self-awareness, presence, and authenticity. Skills include understanding one’s thoughts and emotions, self-regulation, and acting with integrity.
2. Thinking – Developing cognitive capacities for complex problem-solving. Skills include critical thinking, systems thinking, pattern recognition, and long-term visioning.
3. Relating – Enhancing interpersonal and social intelligence. Skills include empathy, perspective-taking, and building meaningful relationships.
4. Collaborating – Strengthening the ability to work collectively. Skills include co-creation, cross-sectoral collaboration, and fostering trust and inclusivity.
5. Acting – Translating inner capacities into purposeful action. Skills include ethical decision-making, resilience, and the ability to implement change effectively.
The IDG framework serves as both a mirror (reflecting current inner capacities) and a map (guiding action for global transformation). It is designed for use in individual development, organizational leadership, education, and community initiatives, helping participants integrate inner growth into practical strategies for sustainable development. By nurturing these skills, the framework aims to accelerate progress toward the SDGs and foster regenerative cultures and economies.
The IDG initiative has established thousands local and regional hubs in more than 60 countries, enabling widespread access to the framework and toolkit. These hubs facilitate workshops, educational programs, and collaborative projects, ensuring that inner development becomes relevant across diverse cultural and organizational contexts.
